The views and landscapes make Ardèche a spectacular place to visit. The wild and impressive gorges are 35km long and form part of a nature reserve whose geological evolution began 110 million years ago.

The area has been inhabited by humans at least since the Upper Paleolithic, as attested by the famous cave paintings at Chauvet Pont d’Arc. The plateau of the Ardeche River has extensive standing stones, erected thousands of years ago. The river is in the largest natural canyon in Europe and the caves that dot the cliffs are known for signs of prehistoric inhabitants.
